Teila Tuli

Teila Tuli, also known as Taylor Wiley (born 1968) is a former sumo wrestler from Hawaii. He was one of a select group of Americans to compete in Japan, where he rose to the level of the makushita class. His sumo name was Takamikuni. He fought for Azumazeki stable, and his time there coincided with the rise of future yokozuna Akebono. In March 1988, he became the first ever foreigner to win a tournament in the makushita division. He quit sumo in 1989. In November 1993, he competed in the UFC 1, in the first televised fight. He lost to Gerard Gordeau. The fight was stopped after Tuli was kicked in the face causing the loss of a tooth. (which the announcers for the event claimed landed under their table).
