[edit] Introduction

Teijin Twaron is a member of the Teijin Group since 2000. Teijin Twaron is an international company that supplies customers throughout the world with para-aramid yarn, fibre, and pulp under the trade name Twaron®. Twaron® is produced by Teijin Twaron in Arnhem, Delfzijl and Emmen, the Netherlands. Twaron® finds its application in numerous markets, such as automotive (tyres, hoses, belts), aerospace, civil engineering, construction, leisure goods (e.g. boats), protective clothing (bullet-, fire- and cut-resistant clothing), optical fibre cables, friction and sealing materials and more. These worldwide markets are served by a global sales and marketing network. The laboratories and technical service centres of Teijin Twaron are constantly improving the performance of its products and actively supporting customers with the development of new products and application areas.

[edit] History

The Netherlands-based Akzo Nobel’s fibers business unit Enka developed Twaron®, a super-strong para-aramid fiber, in the early 1970s. In 1976, the first pilot plant for Twaron was built, and by 1985 five plants were operational on two sites. At the end of 2000, Twaron activities were taken over by Teijin Ltd., Japan, and a major capacity increase was completed in 2003. Teijin projects an 8- to 10-percent increase in the worldwide aramid fibers market in future years, and is adding another 5- to 10-percent increase in capacity.
