Teepee burners

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Teepee Burner is a large, metal, free standing structure ranging from 30 to 60 feet in height that looks like a cross between a Teepee and a badminton shuttlecock. It was open at the top with a large steel grill structure covering it.

Teepee burners were used to dispose of waste wood in logging yards by burning. As a result they produced a large quantity of smoke and ash which was vented directly into the atmosphere without any sort of scrubbing or cleaning, contributing to poor air conditions wherever they were used.

Teepee burners went out of general use in the northwestern United States in the early 1970's.
