Teddy Wayne Gentry was born in Fort Payne, Alabama in 1952. He is best known for being in the band Alabama with his cousins Randy Owen, Jeff Cook, and Mark Herndon. Alabama, which was formed by Gentry, Cook, and Owen in 1969, was influenced by the music of such entertainers as the Eagles and Hank Williams, Jr. They started by playing in small clubs for small amounts of money, but they later were spotted by RCA and received a record deal from them. Gentry is a vocalist and plays bass guitar for the band.
