Technohead

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Technohead were pop / gabba husband and wife duo Michael Wells and Lee Newman (d. 4 August 1995, cancer) Having met at art school in 1985 they formed a loving and creative partnership that lasted until Newman’s death from cancer on 4 August 1995. Their track "I Wanna Be A Hippy" reached number 6 in the UK Singles Chart and number 1 in both The Netherlands and Germany, and the song also achieved at least one gold record. They had several aliases, including Greater Than One, GTO, Church of Extacy, John & Julie, TD5, The Salami Brothers, Signs of Chaos, Tricky Disco, (under which they had an eponymously-titled UK #14 hit in 1990), and Technohead, in which they released an album entitled Headsex.

After Newman's death, Wells issued two further singles under the Technohead name:

  • "Happy Birthday" (UK #18)
  • "Banana-Na-Na" (UK #64)

After this Wells abandoned the moniker for single releases, and started recording music under the names S.O.L.O. & Signs ov Chaos.
