[edit] History

In 2003, Emyu and Edwin "Cyber" Varela formed a group of friends entitled "Team Spam". Contrary to the name, this group wasn't solely occupied with Email Spam, or any other form of spam. Rather, their use of the name was more of a reference to the "bizzare and offensive actions" [2] the group would partake in. This became a large following, especially with the introduction of MC Bennice to the group. Eventually, however, the group went their seperate ways. It was around this time that Emyu and Bennice decided to make a band, taking the title of the defunct group. They found themselves creating over 30 full-length unreleased CDs between 2003 and 2006. Around 2004, they created their own recording service, named "B2LD".[3] Afterwards, in 2007, their first released CD was made, The Letter H (album).[4] Although the physical copies of the album were very few, in the low hundreds, the band utilized torrents to spread the album further than they could otherwise. With this, Team Spam has become an influence on most bands in Tucson in some way, and the comedy music scene as a whole.

The official times of the loss of certain members is uncertain, as is if they actually left, or if the other members simply ceased to recognize them as being in the band.[5]

Currently, Team Spam is planning concerts for both Tucson, Arizona, and Fort Worth, Texas. Other possible venues are unannounced.[6]

[edit] Controversy

Lyrics, images, and almost anything else associated with Team Spam has been surrounded by at least minimal controversy, as stated on the group's website.[7] They have been associated with misogyny, racism [8][9], and anti-Semitism [10]. Regardless, Team Spam has been stated to be planning a new CD, with a possible late-2007 release [11].
