Team Ninja

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Team Ninja is a subsidiary of Tecmo, Ltd. lead by Tomonobu Itagaki. Team Ninja was founded in 1995 as a video game development studio. Officially, it is the team Itagaki created by bringing the most talented people at Tecmo together as "ninjas".

Although not one of the oldest developers (with their first game, Dead or Alive, hitting the U.S. shelves in 1998), Team Ninja is one of many specialized teams (such as the Sonic Team or Team Silent) that produces consistent entertainment through a certain franchise. With a resume of games including the Dead or Alive series and the Ninja Gaiden series, Team Ninja is responsible for the main successes of Tecmo.

Team Ninja has recently taken a habit to releasing a game on launch day for various systems, notably through their Dead or Alive series, which provides a good exhibition for a new console's power. Their games are frequently renowned for the high quality of their graphics. Though lately Team Ninja has created games only for Microsoft consoles, They have recently announced that they are also in development of games for the PlayStation 3 (PS3), the PlayStation Portable (PSP), and the Nintendo DS.

Currently Team Ninja is working on four upcoming games: Project Impact, a secret project which is rumored to be Ninja Gaiden 2, is planned for the Microsoft Xbox 360. There is one in development for the Nintendo DS which had been named Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword. Another mysterious title is currently in development for the Xbox 360 known as Project Progressive. Finally, one more unnamed projects is in the works, set to come out on the Sony PlayStation Portable .
