'Tea Society of a Witch' is an interactive anime DVD, part of Japanese bishōjo game Majo no Ochakai (魔女のお茶会?) by FrontWing. The English language version is a dvd game, while the original Japanese version was for PC (and was much more involved, with at least twice as many endings). The main character is a young high school boy who meets a couple of witches. Depending on the choices made throughout the game, different endings can be achieved. An example of such a choice is the character who the player chooses to talk to each morning. The three girls that can be talked to each day are Nee, Drill, and Manamu.

[edit] Plot
Long ago, there was a world in which mages and humans lived in harmony. Deep contrasts in their two cultures, however, caused differences that could not be overcome between the two races. The humans feared the great power of the mages, and hunted them, trying to erase their kind from earth. Despairingly, the mages sought refuge and created a world of magic for them to live in. In this way, the mages faded from the Earth, and all contact between the two peoples ceased. Each continued on their own paths.
A few hundred years later the mages are hopeful that, once again, their races may live in harmony. In the hope of finding a way to solve their differences, the mages send out their young acolytes for training in the world of humans. If the younger generations of the two peoples can find a way of connecting, perhaps the acolytes could gain important knowledge, and bring it home with them. This year three young witches will go into the human world...
Two of them are elite, the third a drop-out. Can they reunite the two peoples?
[edit] Characters
- Rokusuke
- The viewer of the DVD plays as this protagonist character. He is a normal high-school boy. He boards Nee.
- Megumi
- Rokusuke's childhood friend. She is very energetic, but very lazy at home, and depends on Rokusuke to wake her up each morning. She boards Ponica at her house.
- Ponica
- The most advanced of the three witches. She has a cool and serious attitude which is may be the cause of her good grades. She may look like a child, but she is an adult.
- Nee
- The student who tries twice as hard as everyone else, but almost always fails. At the end of her story (good ending) they find out she is a princess.
- Akiwo
- The witches' instructor. She is quite an oddball, as her personality changes, and is randomly popping up everywhere.
- Drill
- A rich young brat, who always has her 'dog' Poochie with her. She is adept at using magic, but when she messes up she takes it out on Poochie.
- Manamu
- A shy high-school student. She is Megumi and Rokusuke's classmate, but is shy and likes to keep to herself. She works in the library, and has a crush on Rokusuke.
- Kisho
- Rokusuke's rival in rough terms. He boards Drill at his house during her stay in the Human world. He comes from a rich family and is very materialistic. He treats Manamu pretty harshly throughout the story.
- Nana
- Manamu's alter-ego, she works at Loversoul, a restaurant in the game that Akiwo introduces you to. She's very loud and clumsy.
[edit] DVD features
The DVD is interactive and plays similarly to a video game. Continuing the story requires a password that the player is given at the end of each chapter.
[edit] How to Play
The following information is from an insert in the English DVD release, and/or applies to the DVD.
Set the DVD disc in the DVD player. Upon starting the game, a main menu will appear following a short opening movie. To play the game from the beginning, choose GAME START. To start from part way, choose PASSWORD. Note: The game consists of 95 titles, each title with a set of chapters. Entering the password will skip you forward to a specific title on the disc and you will continue from there.
This game is designed to be complete within two "virtual" weeks at the longest. Each morning you are to select which girl (Nee, Drill, or Manamu) you want to speak with. During these conversations moments will occur where you will be asked to make a decision. If your action as a player does not match the girl's demand, or you fail to make significant progress over a period of "virtual days," then the game will end.
- Passwords
- Take note of the password shown during the game. Using it, you can restart the game from the point you stopped playing. The password is three digits composed from the alphabet and numbers. If the password you entered is wrong, a warning message will appear. Enter the password again. To obtain passwords, wait for the password screen. The screen is indicated every time a virtual day ends (excluding the last day). On the password screen you can choose to either continue the game, check the password, or return to the main title.
- General Gameplay
- Scenes in the game mostly consist of you as the player, talking to a static image of the character in front of a background. Often scenes will include what appears to be sprite animations of the characters acting out what is happening in the game (for example, the classroom scene where Nee destroys a wall using her magic). Other times as the player you will see a scene pretaining to what is occurring in the game (for example, when Rokusuke goes to wake up Megumi, you're presented with an image of Megumi sleeping).
- Beating the Game
- There are two possible endings, "Bad Endings" and "Happy Endings." As the player, your goal is to obtain a "Happy Ending." Happy Endings most notably contain the credits for the game. The ending credits depend upon which character you ended with as there are 3 different credit sequences. Hint: An easy way to obtain a Happy Ending is to select a character and keep selecting them the rest of the game.
- Helpful Hints
- Make sure to play the game in a well lit room. Some scenes contain images and or text which may not be suitable for younger viewers. For this reason, be careful where you watch this DVD and with who you watch it with.
