"Te Dejo Madrid" (English: I leave you, Madrid) is a song written by Colombian singer Shakira describing her love for the city of Madrid, the capital of Spain. The music video for it featured the singer as a bullfighter. It was featured on her English breakthrough album Laundry Service. Although it was released as a single in a lot of European countries in 2001, it wasn't released in the United States.

"Te Dejo Madrid" was very successful, as it reached the number-one spot in several Latin countries such as Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, and others. But the song did not repeat its success with the Hispanic-Americans, since it reached a peak position of forty-five in Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks.

The music video for "Te Dejo Madrid" is infamously remembered for the lawsuit that famous Spanish bullfighter El Juli filed against Shakira, for using footage of his performances without his permission.[1]

[edit] Live performances

  • In 2003 and 2004, Shakira performed the song live on her Tour of the Mongoose. However, the song was performed only on the Spanish-speaking countries which were visited for the tour.
