[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:MartinaTimeless.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:MartinaTimeless.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 21:10, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked

You have been blocked for 24 hours for continuing to violate Wikipedia's image copyright and fair-use policies. You have been previously warned about these violations but rather than change your behaviour, you have simply blanked the warnings from this page. This makes it much harder to assume good faith. Please refrain from uploading any more images until you fix the problems with the images you have already uploaded. --Yamla 21:10, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm confused. I only deleted items from this page because I thought they were taken care of and no longer necessary. Didn't know i needed to leave them here. Also, the image you marked was tagged as an album cover. Not sure what the problem is. Tcorey 21:26, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

As noted, you have not provided a detailed fair-use rationale, only a license. If you are willing to go and provide a detailed hand-written fair-use rationale for each use of the image on the Wikipedia, as required by the license, I will be happy to immediately unblock you. --Yamla 21:50, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
That is not a problem I will gladly note fair use information. Tcorey 22:09, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Okay, you've been unblocked. Don't forget to read Help:Image page (specifically, the bit on detailed fair-use rationales, 7.1.3) for the necessary guidelines. --Yamla 22:14, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Please do not remove the no rationale tag from an image, such as you did to Image:MartinaTimeless.jpg, without providing a detailed hand-written fair-use rationale justifying its use on the Wikipedia. It may seem pointless for an album cover used to depict the album but these often end up being used in blatant violation of the license to depict the person (not the album), and a detailed fair-use rationale (which is required anyway) helps to reduce the chances of this happening. --Yamla 03:36, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Please advise if the rationale I listed at Image:MartinaTimeless.jpg is sufficient for removal of the no rationale tag. Tcorey 15:32, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Not quite. You must point out which specific article the rationale is for. Once you've done that, please feel free to remove the tag yourself. I removed it from another image, though I did have to remove the image from a second page for which no rationale was presented. --Yamla 15:53, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Also, it is generally worth noting in the rationale for an album cover that it is only being used to depict the album, not to illustrate the artist involved. This is already required by the license but a lot of people miss it. --Yamla 15:54, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:TakeMyBreathAway.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:TakeMyBreathAway.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
