TCM Underground
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TCM Underground is a late-night Turner Classic Movies series that features cult films hosted by industrial rock/heavy metal musician and independent filmmaker Rob Zombie. TCM Underground began airing Friday the 13th of October 2006 with Plan 9 from Outer Space and Bride of the Monster.[1] It has been confirmed that the series would continue through to 2007, though the film series will be pre-empted for entire month of February due to the network's "31 Days of Oscar" film series.[2] The promotional material was created by Raygun.[3]
The series was launched in an attempt to attact more young viewers to Turner's older-skewing audience.[4]

[edit] Host
Turner Classic Movies hired popular heavy metal artist/filmmaker Rob Zombie to host the series. Zombie, an avid horror movie fan who's filmwork included directing and writing the controversial horror films "House of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects", hosted the series until the December 1st, 2006 installment of the series.
Though Rob Zombie told Fangoria that his presenting style would be the antithesis to TCM host Robert Osborne's film introductions[5], Zombie's hosting format was the same as Osborne's, in terms of introducing the films and explaining to viewers the basic plot and story behind the making of the film. The only variation was with Zombie's ending segment, shown after the end of the film, where he discusses the reasons behind the film being shown's failure at the box office.
