[edit] "No New Taxes" Pledge
Arguably the Taxpayers' League's greatest claim to fame was their "No New Taxes" pledge. The League exacted this pledge from a large number of candidates - primarily Minnesota Republican candidates - during the 2002 campaign, including from soon-to-be-Governor Tim Pawlenty.
Pawlenty stuck to the pledge throughout his first term; of the 13 Republican legislators who lost their re-election bids in 2004, 11 had been among those who renounced the pledge.
