TaxACT is a tax preparation software for the US Market.

TaxACT is developed and marketed by 2nd Story Software, Inc. The company claims to have done 18 million tax returns since they started their service. Their marketing strategies include providing free basic federal tax return preparation and free e-files with the hope of building a customer base and the possible revenues from their premium products and state returns.

TaxAct provides free files as part of the Free File program which is a free federal tax preparation and electronic filing program for eligible individual taxpayers developed through a partnership between the IRS and the Free File Alliance LLC, a group of private sector tax software companies.
