The Taupo District Council is a local council located in the Central North Island of New Zealand.

The district stretches from the small town of Mangakino in the northwest to the Tongariro National Park in the south, and east into the Kaingaroa Forest, covering 6,970 km2 (including Lake Taupo). A total population of 31,521 (2001 Census)

The district falls within the jurisdiction of four different regional councils, however the vast majority of the district falls within the jurisdiction of Environment Waikato

The district currently has four wards, this will be decreasing to three in 2007.

The area of Taupo is administered by the Taupo District Council under delegated authority to the Taupo/Kaingaroa-Mangakino/Pouakani Committee as a standing committee of Council.

The area Kaingaroa are administered by the Taupo District Council under delegated authority to the Taupo/Kaingaroa-Mangakino/Pouakani Committee as a standing committee of Council.

The areas of Mangakino and Pouakani are administered by the Taupo District Council under delegated authority to the Taupo/Kaingaroa-Mangakino/Pouakani Committee.
The area is represented by two district councillors and together with further two community appointed representatives, the ward has a total of five members including the Mayor.

The areas of Turangi and Tongariro are administered by the Taupo District Council under delegated authority to the Turangi Tongariro Community Board.
The area is represented at Council by three district Councillors and together with six elected Community Board members, the ward has a total of nine members.
