Target World Challenge

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Target World Challenge is an offseason golf tournament hosted by Tiger Woods, which takes place each December at Sherwood Country Club, a Jack Nicklaus designed course in Thousand Oaks, California. The sixteen man field comprises the defending champion, the top eleven available players from the Official World Golf Rankings, and four special invitees chosen by the Tiger Woods Foundation. It is not an official money tournament on any tour, but it is recognised as an unofficial money event by the PGA Tour.

The tournament was established as a charity fundraiser by Tiger Woods, and all the charitable funds raised go to charities that he is associated with. It is nonetheless an extremely lucrative event for the professionals who take part. In 2006 the prize fund will be $5.7 million. This is similar to many official PGA Tour events, but they mostly have fields of around a hundred and fifty to divide it between, rather than just sixteen. However, Tiger Woods donates his prize to the Tiger Woods Foundation. The first prize is $1.35 million, and last place is $170,000.
