Taraori is a city and a Tehsil (Municipal committee) 16 km north of Karnal in Karnal District in the Indian state of Haryana. It was here that in 1191 CE that the Rajput army under Prithviraj Chauhan defeated the invading army of Muhammad of Ghaur. The following year Ghauri invaded again and defeated Prithviraj's forces by resorting to treachery. A wall around the town is now in a dilapidated condition. A mosque and a tank, said to be the works of Aurangzeb, are still in existence.
