Tank Battalion is a multi-directional shooter arcade game that was released by Namco in 1980. It was later ported to the Japanese Famicom (with a corresponding Vs. System game) and Game Boy, but for unknown reasons was retitled Battle City. This game was also ported to the MSX 8-bit computers with its original name.
[edit] Gameplay
The player, controlling a tank, must destroy 20 enemy tanks in each level, which enter the playfield from the top of the screen. The enemy tanks attempt to destroy the player's base (represented on the map as an eagle), as well as the player's tank. A level is completed when the player destroys all 20 enemy tanks, but the game ends if the player's base is destroyed or the player loses all his lives. A sequel named Tank Force was released in 1991, which allowed 2 players to play simultaneously.
