Tangled Web (Beast Wars)

Tangled Web is an episode of the television series Beast Wars, which first aired on November 16, 1997. It was written by Len Wein, and directed by Craig McEwen.

After locating a large supply of energon cubes in "Grid Arachis", Megatron sends Tarantulas, Blackarachnia, and Quickstrike to build a refueling station there. In addition, Megatron sends Waspinator and Inferno to build a jamming tower at an unknown location for the purposes of disrupting maximal communications, as well as "planning for the future." Quickstrike appears more than willing to follow Megatron's orders, while Tarantulas is upset that he's being used for such menial tasks.
The activities of Tarantulas and company are detected by the Maximals, and Optimus Primal sends Rattrap and Silverbolt to investigate.
After the Predacon building party had arrived and investigated the location (which was essentially a cave), they were intercepted by the Maximal party (consisting of Rattrap and Silverbolt). A battle ensued, which to some degree was won by the Predacons. At one point during the battle, Tarantulas points out to Quickstrike that he needs to continue fighting, as so to keep the Maximals away from the cave, for having the enemy learn about the energon deposits would be detremental to the Predacons as a whole. Silverbolt picks up on this immediately, and begins to trek towards the cave, but an explosion occurs before he gets to the opening, sending him careening away. The explosion blocks off the entrance to the cave, which forces the Predacons to retreat back to base.
After retreating back to the Predacon base, Tarantulas informs Megatron of the failed mission, to which Megatron becomes extremely irate. The episode concludes with Tarantulas inside the cave, claiming to be his new lair, which would come important in later episodes.
