Tampa Bay Derby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Tampa Bay Derby is a race for Thoroughbred race horses held in March at Tampa Bay Downs. A Grade III event, the race is open to three-year-olds willing to race one and one-sixteenth miles (8.5 furlongs) on the dirt. The race has gained in popularity over the past few years as trainers aiming for the Kentucky Derby have used it as a prep race.
In 2007, the race was run on Saturday March 17 for a purse of $300,000.
