Talgar

Talgar is a region of Almaty Province, southeastern Kazakhstan. It consists of an alluvial apron formed by the Talgar River, extending northwards from the glacier peaks of the Zaiilisky Alatau (topped by Talgar Peak, 4,973m), an extension of the northern flanks of the Tien Shan Mountains.

The town of Talgar itself is located at 43°19′N, 77°15′E, between Almaty and Issyk. It is the capital of the Talgar raion (Талгарский район) of Almaty Province, which has some 135,400 inhabitants on 3,800 km2.
