[edit] Background
Takumi had a relatively turbulent childhood: a drunk for a father and a sickly mother, who later passed away. However, he managed to overcome this to form a band with his high school friends Layla (Reira Serizawa, vocals) and Naoki Fujieda (drummer). Both were his juniors.
His other friends from high school include Yasushi Takagi (Yasu), who would later become the leader of "Black Stones", a rival group to Trapnest.
Eventually, when Trapnest decided to break into the Japanese market, Takumi invited Honjo Ren (another friend of Yasu) to join them as a guitarist. The group took Japan by storm, and had many fans, among them was Komatsu Nana, who eventually became Takumi's fiancee.
[edit] Personality
In his high school days, Takumi had a reputation as a troublemaker and somewhat of a gangster (Naoki himself was intimidated by his future leader when the two first met.). Despite this, he became popular in school due to his band.
In Trapnest, Takumi is well-known to be a taskmaster. Almost all of his actions led to ensure the survival and popularity of Trapnest. As such, Layla frequently throws small tantrums whenever Takumi curtails her "undesirable" habits. A running gag of the series is to compare Trapnest to a military organization, with Takumi as the leader with an iron fist. Despite this "iron rule", he tolerated misdeeds from his band members, such as Ren taking drugs and Layla having trysts with a minor, namely Shin, the bassist of "Black Stones". On the part of his band members, they don't seem to mind Takumi making most of the band's decisions.
Takumi seldom speaks of his family background. Only his close friends know much about his past. To the outside world, he shows himself as a cool, somewhat aloof person who was prone to flirting with beautiful women.
His goals are unclear. While he promises to marry Hachi (Nana Komatsu) and to father her unborn child regardless of who the biological father is, he has also cheated on her-- though not without a guilty conscience. In the future is shown that he is still married with Nana and they have a daughter, Satsuki. However, it's not clear if he is still cheating on her, but he is shown being a very tender father for Satsuki, which might be not his.
[edit] Voice actors and live-action actor
- In the PS2 game, he's voiced by veteran seiyu Takehito Koyasu. Yazawa commented that Koyasu sounded "sexy" as Takumi, in the "omake" section at the end of Volume 12, where the characters were discussing about the game.
- In the anime version, he's voiced by another veteran seiyu, Toshiyuki Morikawa (of Sephiroth in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts series fame).
- In the live action movie and its sequel, he's portrayed by Tetsuji Tamayama.
[edit] Trivia
- His favourite brand of cigarettes is "Gitanes". (In Volume 6 of the manga, while sleeping with Hachi, one can see a packet of cigarettes with the name on the side table. Later in the volume, Takumi is also smoking from a pack of "Gitanes" while waiting for Layla.)
