[edit] Background

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Takeshi Sendo's background story isn't revealed until Mari, Fuji's assistant, went to Osaka to interview him and his family. Sendo's mother died few after childbirth, so he spent his first years with his father and paternal grandmother, raised under the motto "you should protect those around you".

When Sendo was around four or five years old, his father (a firefighter) died in a terrible fire, and since then he was raised by his grandmother, the owner of a small convenience store in Osaka. She remarks on how Sendo was extremely proud of his father for giving his life defending people, and how he wanted to protect those around him.

Sendo's childhood was normal and happy thanks to his cheerful and open personality, but took a big detour one day when he and his elementary school friends were beaten up by older kids in the public park. Powerless to help his companions, Sendoh arrived home bruised and crying - however, in his own words, Sendo was ashamed not for his injuries, but for the physical weakness that didn't allow him to defend his friends. The next day, he and his orange kitten Tora attacked the bullies, and armed with a baseball bat Sendo took revenge, or in his point of view, "he made justice".

As Sendo grew older, and much to his loving but severe grandmother's dismay, he became increasingly violent towards bullies and gangsters; the other children would go to him whenever they were under fire, and Sendo would eagerly and even happily take justice in his hands. When he was in highschool, Sendoh had already become one of the most feared street fighters and gang leaders in Osaka.

By those days, Sendo got into a fight with a group of rookie boxers from the Naniwa boxing gym and defeated them. When their coach, Yamaoka, came to face Sendoh, he proved to be much more of a challenge and successfully blocked Sendoh's attacks. Sendo then followed Yanaoka to the Naniwa gym and heard him talking about their fistfight with boss Naniwa, the owner, and accepted their offer to join the gym officially.

[edit] Notable Fights

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
  • Takeshi Sendo vs Ippo Makunouchi
The Japanese Featherweight Rookie King Championship (6 rounder). Ippo won by KO, 0 minutes and 0 seconds in the 3rd round. This was the fight between the East (Ippo) and the West (Sendo) Rookie Kings. The fight was almost canceled due to the damage Ippo's fist sustained in the East Japan Rookie finals with Mashiba. The fight was a steady exchange of hard punches between the two. Sendo took a hit to his temple in the 2nd round and though he kept fighting, he lost consciousness. His trainer had to pull him back to his corner when the bell rang because he wouldn't stop punching. At the start of the fourth round, he doesn't get up and the ref calls the fight.
  • Takeshi Sendo vs Volg Zangief
The Japanese Featherweight Championship match (10 rounder). After Eiji Date had reliquished the title, the #1 and #2 ranked fighters fought for the title. Sendo won by decision, making him the Japanese Featherweight Champion. Though the two were pretty even for most of the match, neither could Knockout the other. Sendo felt that the decision was unfair and told Volg that a rematch with him was his top priority.
  • Takeshi Sendo vs Ippo Makunouchi II
This was Sendo's 3rd defense of the title (10 rounder). Ippo won by KO, 1 minute and 32 seconds in the 7th round. Though both were even for most of the match, Ippo eventually knocked out Sendo with a perfected Dempsey roll in their last round, and wins the featherweight title from Sendo.
