[edit] History

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Takeo Saeki was an illustrator working in Nerima, Japan when he found then-nineteen-year-old Kayako Kawamata who had recently dropped out of college shortly after her parents died. He seemed like the only person in the world who had ever wanted and loved Kayako as evidenced by saying 'Kayako, I want you.' (said in the novel), which made Kayako decide to become his wife. A year later, they had a cute little son named Toshio.

As evidenced in the Ju-On novelization, Takeo Saeki is very possessive and jealous of anyone who steals Kayako's attention, like one time when his wife said she like a particular actor on the TV, he would get very angry. But outside of these bad qualities, Takeo was a very kind man.

But one day at home, he must have been drawing in their bedroom, when he stumbled upon Kayako's diary and read it. He was struck by uncontrollable rage when he learned that Kayako was in love with another man named Shunsuke Kobayashi (who was already happily married to his pregnant wife Manami Midorikawa), Toshio's school teacher and Kayako's 'first love' back in college, and became obsessed with the idea that not only was he was being cheated but also Toshio possibly wasn't his child (although he was), but Kobayashi's.

When Kayako got home, Takeo brutally murdered her by slashing her with a utility knife, then hiding her body in the attic. As for Toshio (as seen in the American remake of the first 'Ju-On' movie), he was drowned along with his beloved black pet cat Mar. Takeo ran to Kobayashi's apartment and kills Manami (小林 真奈美 Kobayashi Manami) and takes her baby. Then in a nasty temper tantrum on the dark streets, he called Kobayashi by using the bloody phone booth (He had killed Manami's premature baby!), saying he would be leaving him to raise Toshio because he thought 'up until now, he had raised him in his place'. Then after hitting the dead female fetus around in a sack, he fell on some garbage bags, one of them actually heading towards him and containing Kayako's dead spirit who evntually killed him on that street.

From that day on, the Saeki family household became an infamous landmark. Once anyone entered, they would either be killed by the spirits of Takeo, Kayako or Toshio, or disappear within Kayako's evil clutches.
