Tahtay Adiyabo

Tahtay Adiyabo (Tigrinya "Lower Adiyabo") is one of the 36 woredas in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Mi'irabawi Zone, Tahtay Adiyabo is bordered on the south by the Asigede Tsimbela, then by the Tekezé River which separates Tahtay Adiyabo from Wolqayt and Kafta Humera on the southwest, on the north by Eritrea, and on the east by La'ilay Adiyabo. Towns and cities in Tahtay Adiyabo include Addi Awuala, Addi Hageray and Badme.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 112,141, of whom 55,041 were males and 57,100 were females; 22,251 or 19.84% of its population are urban dwellers, which is greater than the Zone average of 14.7%. With an estimated area of 3,865.07 square kilometers, Tahtay Adiyabo has an estimated population density of 29 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 40.62.^[1]
