Taffy (ethnic slur)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Taffy is a sometimes pejorative term for a Welsh person or thing. It is derived from the Welsh forename "Dafydd", or "David" and is documented from the year 1700 onwards.[1]
It is also frequently suggested that it is a reference to the River Taff in Cardiff, the Welsh capital, and one source attributes this use of Taffy as a reference to Amaethon, who steals from Arawn in the 6th century poem "Cad Goddeu".
In North Wales, the term is often used to refer to inhabitants of South Wales, probably due to the River Taff.
In the Thief computer game series, "Taffy" has changed to "Taffer" and is a word guards often use, especially when referring to the protagonist Garret, who is a professional thief.
