[edit] 1426

You had a question here. 1426 is the year of the corresponding date in the Islamic Calendar. Yay! 150.101.189.156 06:20, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

You'll probably never come back to this page, but since you're anonymous you don't have your own talk page, so: I do know what that date was, I just mentioned it because (since I don't read Arabic, or have an Arabic keyboard) it was the only search criterion I could use.

[edit] logarithm

Hello. It seems the slide rule article does not agree with you that John Napier was its inventor. I suspect whoever wrote the sentence about Napier's "invention" meant that Napier "invented" logarithms. Michael Hardy 20:53, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

so I was looking for an alternative proof or explanation. I saw this sentence that didn't seem to make sense, and I thought that what was meant was the invention of the slide rule.

OK....

You might also want to notice the difference between these:

log < sub > a < / sub > b = log < sub > n < / sub > b / log < sub > n < / sub > a
\log_a b = \log_n b / \log_n a\,

(Click on "edit" to see how the latter was created) See TeX. Michael Hardy 18:33, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome

Hi, great to have you here, the more South Africans the better. There is a list of South African Wikipedians at Wikipedia:Wikipedians/South Africa. If you want you can also put your name down as well. Good luck for your exams and remember BE BOLD--Jcw69 5 July 2005 13:23 (UTC)

[edit] Respiratory acidosis

No, I only split it off from the impossibly long acidosis on 2004, 27 December. The material in question was added by Shiney, a departed user, on 2004, 26 October diff. JFW | T@lk 22:33, 9 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] IFD of Image:Niftymosque.PNG

May I ask why you've listed this for IFD? Tomer TALK 11:57, August 9, 2005 (UTC)

It's used on a talk page, not an article. Look at the discussion there, and you'll understand WHY it's badly drawn and small. I appreciate your zealousness, but this image is utterly inoffensive, and as far as I'm aware, not in violation of any image policies. Tomer TALK 12:02, August 9, 2005 (UTC)

Thank you. Tomer TALK 12:06, August 9, 2005 (UTC)

You probably did check the links...it's just you were so quick with your IfD tag that I wasn't done with my edit that used it by the time it was tagged! :-p Overzealous indeed! I feel like I'm under a microscope! (j/k)  :-p Tomer TALK 12:12, August 9, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] SANDF template

Right, I got all the emblems from the respective official websites, and I guess I missed the artifacts in some of them (esp the SAAF emblem). I can't fix it now, because I'm also just about to start varsity exams, but I'll see what I can do in the weeks ahead. Hopefully I'll get a chance before exams end in December to do the necessary fixing. — Impi 18:20, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Goddesses translation

Done. I also added Haykal's analysis. Please check. Cheers -- Svest 20:04, 22 October 2005 (UTC)  Wiki me up™

[edit] SACP MPs

Hey, thanks for your reply! I did know that the SACP run on the ANC ticket – I was wondering how numerous they were within the ANC caucus. I mean, are we talking about a fifth of the ANC's MPs? a third? a tenth? Just curious. QuartierLatin 1968 15:58, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] ZyXoas

Cha! I'm not umXhosa, I am Mosotho, yet I do have a great interest on Kintu linguistics. Check out "my" Sesotho language page. Is it overkill? Or do you think that perhaps all language pages should be that in depth? Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, after all. You have no idea how much trouble I had to go through to implement that page about a year ago!! I know C++ and I'm considering teaching myself Python as well. I was taught Turbo Pascal in High School. Apart from Kintu linguistics I'm also very much interested in Chinese (as opposed to Mandarin - I know the pronunciations of a few characters, though) and Devanagari (Sanskrit) and I can read quite a bit of religious classical (Qur'anic) 'Arabic. I live in Meyerton in Rhawudeni about 10km outside of Vereeniging. What? does "Tebello Thejane" sound like isiXhosa, dude? Xa ufun'ukutheta nam about anything at all (we seem to have many common interests) that would be great!!! But be warned - my internet access is currently not exactly guaranteed, so don't be surprised if I don't come back to Wikipedia for another year or so. I'm not officially back. (ZyXoas) 10:54, 14 November 2005 (UTC)~ (hey, how do I show my username again? Or does this PC not have cookies, or something...?)

[edit] ZyXoas (again)

Dude, as an isiXhosa student you obviously know that there is not such thing as "Xhosa". The closest word to "zulu" is the Nguni word "izulu/lizulu" meaning sky/thunder/heaven/clouds. There is no such thing as "sotho" either. Hell, since "Sesotho" can only mean the language/culture of Basotho there's no reason why it should even be qualified with the suffix "language".

I know the Sesotho page sucks. I lied: I haven't been away from Wikipedia for 1 year, it's actually been 2 years. I simply have had very little opportunity to do something about it! I also need to fix various other pages I worte or edited, like Batlokoa. Batlokwa are not Basotho. The "third" major Basotho clan is Bakhatla. Batlokwa are actually a Northern Sesotho speaking nation distinct from Moshoeshoe's Basotho (like Balodedu - Modjadji's people, and Bapedi). I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that, but the really scary thing is that no one has done anything about it! I even found a link to it on the meager Basotho! Crazy!

Dude, as soon as I get decent Internet access I'll do a whole lot of fixing up, that's for sure!! 8-D Till then, backoff from editing content you know (in your own words) "nothing" about, ight?

I forgot my bloody password - can you believe that?? Perhaps you and I should stop "fighting" over useless stuff. This is not what I had in mind when I said "Xa ufun'ukuthetha nam", and while we we're bickering about whatever, hundreds of articles on Africa on Wikipedia are currently fermenting in a cesspool of misinformation (including Sesotho). It makes me more so frustratred that I can't do anything about it!!

For example, as far as I can tell, there is no one in Africa who practices Animism, yet I've seen many entries on various "tribes" saying they do! Traditional African Religion as practised by almost the whole of Africa is Monotheist, no matter what European Anthoropologists (?) may have told you. Ask the people of Africa - they will tell the idea of "Everything is a god" is completely foreign to them. Yet why are Wikipedians perpertuating the 300 hundred year old lie that Africans are Animist? Ask your amaXhosa buddies whether their traditionalist parents/uncles/grandfathers believe that all is god and they'll probly say something like "Yintoni leyi uyithethayo, ngokhu!!??" (or something like that).

I'm African, I know it's a lie, yet I can't do anything about it. ARGH!!

Anyways good luck with your first year of university.

Tebello Thejane.

[edit] Truth & Reconciliation Commission

I am writing a book on a dozen right-wing conservative activists in Britain. Needless to say they knew Clive Derby-Lewis very well. What is your view as to why his application to the Commission for amnesty was turned down. After all, he was convicted without a jury, and he did not personally carry our Hani's assassination. What is your opinion on this? Robert I 11:02, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Chaitin's constant

Sorry for the delay, I haven't checked my messages for several months. Look at Talk:Chaitin's constant and see if I've answered your question. Lev 12:40, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Jang Sun-wu

Nae, annyeonghaseyeo. I wasn't sure whether to use Jang Sun-wu or Jang Sun-woo. I can't type Hangul on this machine but I believe that in strict Revised Romanization it would be Jang Seon-woo. Unfortunately I don't think it will be easy to find out his preferred romanization, but redirects are cheap.--ThreeAnswers 07:46, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

There is neither woo nor wu in RR. I've added a template to the article.—Wikipeditor

[edit] Deus Caritas Est

Thank you for your email, I have added that information to the article's talk page. By the way, is there anything I can do to unblock you? Mushroom 09:59, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Diocesan College

Hi, I just wanted to say that as an OD who shares your sentiments I appreciated your comments in the discussion page of The Diocesan College. If you were not quite the hearty, rugby-playing, strapping, 'Hooray Harry' kind of lad desired by Bishops, you were marginalised at that school. Swissjames 20:40, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sesotho language

Hi, I'm trying to get a discussion going on the issue of whether to write "Sesotho" or "Sotho", at Talk:African languages#Style for African language names. I notice you were contributing in that area – drop in and give your two thebes' worth? Most grateful JackyR 20:22, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ZyXoas is being very very clever

Check out my talk page! Zyx can edit from his mobile phone! Anyway, what he says is all too clever for me (never got beyond lesson 3 in Setswana), and he says to ask you about the (isi)Xhosa... He picks up messages from his own talk page fine. Inn't technology amazin'! JackyR 21:38, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
