Téléroman

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A téléroman ("telenovel") is a French language dramatic television series, similar to a soap opera or a Spanish language telenovela, in Quebec. In France, the téléroman genre is known as feuilleton télévisé (similar to a serial). Téléromans are one of the most popular television show formats in Québécois culture, and are also shown on French television.

In Québec, nearly all the major TV networks carry téléromans, including the public broadcaster Radio-Canada (which televises them nationally) and the private TV networks TVA and TQS. In France, the TV network TF1 and the pay-TV channel Canal+ airs feuilletons télévisés.

One of the first téléromans on Quebec television was La famille Plouffe. This téléroman was very successful, and since then have become staples of Quebec television.

Some notable téléromans have included:

  • 4 et demi...
  • Les Belles histoires des pays d'en haut
  • Les Dames de coeur
  • Diva
  • Jasmine
  • Lance et compte
  • Les Plouffe
  • Virginie

In 2003, TFO produced the first franco-ontarian téléroman, Francoeur.
