The Syrian Horse originated from Syria, and is closely related to the Arabian. The breed is technically a pony, as most never reach higher than 14.2 hh (though they may reach 15.1 hh), but it is horse in build and conformation. The breed is thought to be purely of Arabian blood, that was simply isolated and developed by its region.
Like the Arabian, the Syrian is hardy and frugal, able to survive on the poorest of nutrition. Built for the desert, it is uniquely adapted to the high temperatures of the climate, as well as the cold of the night. They are spirited and hot, with a noble presence, and may be gray or chestnut in color. Conformationally, they resemble their Arabian cousins, with fine, chiseled head, lean body, arched neck, and delecate limbs; however, they are generally considered to be slightly less-attractive.
