Syphrus Music

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Syphrus Music is a Martinsburg, West Virginia based independent record label/collective and affiliated with the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. Syphrus Music was started and continues to be operated by musicians, for musicians, in a way that bypasses the traditional mainstream music industry.

The label currently represents artists that include Tribes of Revolt, Dysfigure, Joe Nichols, Project Fission, and The Demon Inside. In 2005, the artist-run collective began moving away from the role of record label. Artists participating in the collective decided instead to simply share resources and cross-promote one another while being financially autonomous. With individual artists funding their respective projects, Syphrus Music as a collective was better able to focus on promotional efforts and resource development.

On June 27, 2006, Tribes of Revolt released their debut album, Firsborn. Driven by the singles "Dawn of a New Day", Blood From a Leech", "Born Down", and "The Damage Undone", the album has gained independent radio airplay and online downloads. The band's music is scheduled to be included in the upcoming independent film Some Dark Hollow, along with other artists from the label including Dysfigure and Joe Nichols.

In September 2006, Dysfigure finished recording tracks for their debut album, due for a 2007 release. The band released a 3-song sampler from the new album on December 30, 2006.
