SynthEdit

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SynthEdit is an extremely powerful shareware Windows application which uses a modular VPL (Visual Programming Language) for creating music synthesizers and effects units as workflows. These workflows can then be compiled in to VST plugins for use in audio applications and music sequencers.

SynthEdit was started in 2000 by Jef McClintock, and version 1.0 was released on June, 23 2005. Many programmers have since created additional freeware and buyware module enhancements for use within SynthEdit's programming environment.

SynthEdit's popularity and success as a modular synthesizer and effect creation package is mostly due to its ability to export SynthEdit workflow creations to VST format, as well as its low shareware price.

SynthEdit allows the creation of VST Instruments, VST Effects, as well as a detailed GUI editing system, and a full MIDI interface to interface with hardware controllers. SynthEdit has also been used to create additional devices that do not fall squarely within the realms of synthesizer or effect units.
