Synology Inc, founded in April of 2000, is an international company that produces network attached storage servers for the SOHO and SMB/SME environment. Synology aims to provide people an innovative way of sharing and storing digital contents. Synology servers bear a small footprint, are designed to be energy conscious and are designed to be user-friendly. Synology target customer group are power users, small offices and businesses. As year 2006, Synology has two lines of products, the Disk Station and Cube Station.

Synology aims to give their users a premium level of service by including more functions into their servers besides being just a plain file server. On top of giving the user many choices of backup execution, and hosting capabilities, users will also notice other benefits, such as an online community support, and periodic releases of new features for servers, some of which have been discontinued.
