Synanthrope

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Synanthropes are animals, often considered pests, which are not domesticated but live near and benefit from humans. (From the Greek syn-, "together with" + anthro, "man".)

The term is related to studies of ecology and relates to animals who have benefited from the long term selection of species conducted by man over millennia — artificial selection. Examples of synanthropes would be rodents, pigeons, lice and other urban animals. Domesticated animals like cow, goat and dog do not apply to this category.
