The Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management, Nashik, India, is a premier management education institute. It was established in 2005 to impart knowledge on Operations Management and create a talent pool of operations managers. The institute churns out nearly 60 Techno Business Managers every year. It is a part of Symbiosis family of institutes Pune, one of the largest private Educational Trust in India.

SIOM is an institute dedicated to operations management (OM). It is located about 185 km away from Mumbai and 220 km away from Pune. It conducts various research projects with the industries which are located in Nashik or near by.

SIOM offers Master in Business Administration (Operations) affiliated to the newly formed Symbiosis International University, formerly known as Symbiosis International Education Centre (SIEC).

MBA(Operations) is a full time residential course offered to the students joining through a common entrance test conducted for all the Symbiosis Institutes called SNAP TEST.

It has a server room equipped with Two Compaq ML 370 servers with SAP, HP ML 350 Servers running on Windows 2003 and two computer labs housing a total of 100 computers and workstations running Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

The library consists of management publications, books, over 7000 periodicals, online-journals, newspapers, videocassettes, photograph albums, 498 CDs and annual reports of companies that includes numerous case studies and HBR bound volumes (since 1984). The library also subscribes to a host of online databases like and Prowess and Business Beacon.

[edit] Selection Procedure

Students are selected through a national level entrance test, the Symbiosis National Aptitude Test for Post Graduation (SNAP). It is a common entrance test for all institutes under the umbrella of the Symbiosis Society, held generally in the month of December/January. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of written test are called for group discussion, personal interview and finally the Director's interview.

The institute conducts work shops,seminars to educate students and professionals about technology innovations and trends.

All students in SIOM are engineers by graduation. The college has of more than 85% students with work experience in first year (as of 2006).

Apart from the regular academic activities students at SIOM are involved in social, environmental or spiritual extra curricular activities.

SIOM-SEED is a student cell of Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management, set-up to provide a helping hand for small and medium enterprises to streamline their operations inline with the modern practices. This cell mainly focuses on the problem defined by the respective organizations such as surplus stock, high Work In Process (WIP), delay in production, high rejection rate, high process defects, poor quality, poor documentation, etc.

These problems are understood by making frequent visit to their establishment by the SIOM-SEED team and by discussing with the owner and the employees within the organization. This is followed by meticulous brainstorming within the SIOM-SEED team and with the company which result in various solutions for the problems. After a thorough discussion, the most suitable solution which improves the productivity is taken up for the implementation at the company. This eventually lead to profit for the organization.
