[edit] Major Events
Footprints First year students of SIMC, fresh out of their first semester, are divided into teams to go out to different cities in India on the mission of organising Footprints, SIMC's annual series of media seminars.
For students it is an opportunity to gain practical experience, interact with the media and communications professionals and organise an event from scratch. The students have to come up with topics, zero in on speakers, identify sponsors, finalise venues, bring in participants, get media coverage and execute the event. It may sound formidable, but SIMC students have pulled it off for the past five years with finesse.
Fest O' Comm
The nationwide series of seminars culminate in Fest O' Comm, the annual communication festival conducted by students of the SIMC. As with Footprints, students are required to organise the event from scratch, right from finding sponsors to designing posters to arranging accommodation and transport facilities for all the 700 participants who come to participate from various parts of the country. Fest O' Comm is a four-day festival that comprises seminars, workshops, celebrity shows, competitions and various fun events. Each year sees the who's who of the media industry conducting workshops and sessions on the various nuances of mass communication and the media.
SIMC pioneered the tradition of conferring Awards of Excellence in Media to the stalwarts of the media industry in recognition of their contribution to the industry, as part of Fest O' Comm. The Awards of Excellence in Media for this year were given to Rajiv Desai, Founder & President, IPAN, Piyush Pandey, National Creative Director, Ogilvy and Mather, acclaimed filmmaker Govind Nihalani and Satinder Bindra, Bureau Chief India, CNN.
