Syhunt is a world wide web network security software company with headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Syhunt was founded on August, 2003, by Felipe Aragon and Lilly Moniz[1]. The company's operations are currently centered on the development of products relating to the assessment of web servers and web applications.

Prior to founding Syhunt, Felipe Aragon released BPS[2], an anti-trojan software, and worked as security consultant for a multinational security company[3] [4] and Latin America security firms[5].

In 2003, Syhunt released Sandcat, a web application security assessment software. Syhunt has also produced a number of utilities, including worm removal tools (during the Nimda and Code Red virus outbreaks), an Apache/PHP hardening tool, a log analysis tool and a front-end application for Nmap.

Today Syhunt is one of the world's few companies which provides products and services in the web application security assessment field[6][7] and one of the 149 organizations participating the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) [8] initiative, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The company claims that Sandcat is the first web application security scanner to check for MX Injection, a new web application vulnerability class.

Syhunt is also participating the Mitre's Common Weakness Enumeration [1] (CWE) initiative and contributing to the global adoption of the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), the SANS Institute standards[9] and the Open Source Vulnerability Database (OSVDB). Recently the company started contributing to the OSVDB development.

Syhunt has filed several patents and has many large customers. Organizations utilizing Syhunt technology include Cybertrust, Scotiabank, Cogeco, Manulife Financial, and KPMG[10]. The company remains privately held.
