Sydney Youth Orchestra

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sydney Youth Orchestra (SYO), is one of Australia's premier youth orchestras and is the flagship orchestra of the The Sydney Youth Orchestras

Sydney Youth Orcehstras consists of seven different ensembles of varying standards, except Emile, he's a silly boy. Many of the members of the SYO (senior orchestra) have climbed through the ranks of all the ensembles within the association, although it is not a requirement for entry.

In the Sydney Youth Orchestras there are three junior ensembles with only strings:

  1. Speer Orchestra (40 strings)
  2. Chamber Orchestra (40 Strings)
  3. Sinfonietta (35 strings)

The other two ensembles introduce wind and brass:

  1. Peter Seymour Orchestra (60 strings, 2 flute, 2 clarinet, 2 oboe, 2 bassoon, 2 french horn)
  2. SYO Philharmonic (75 total instruments)

The SYO itself consists of around 100 of the best musicians around Sydney.

There is also an ensemble specifically for a wide range of wind and brass instruments, the Symphonic Wind Orchestra.
