Sir Sydney Wylie Samuelson, CBE (b. 7 December 1925) was appointed in 1991 as the first British Film Commissioner.

He is the son of cinema pioneer G. B. Samuelson. He has been an officer of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts for over 20 years, has been chairman of the Management board since 1976 and is permanent trustee. In 1993 he was awarded a Fellowship, the Academy’s highest honour. In 1995 he was awarded a Knighthood, for services to the British Film Industry.
