Southwest Technical Products Corporation introduced the SWTPC 6800 computer system in November 1975. The SWTPC 6800 architecture was based on Motorola MC6800 microprocessor and the MIKBUG "operating system" ROM.

The SWTPC 6800 was easy to assemble and was very popular with hobbyist. It remained in production until 1980. By 1978 the typical configuration included 40k bytes of RAM and dual 5.25 inch floppy drives.
