a similar, cross-cultural clan-based orientation and highly marked sexual roles—not to mention blood feud—not so long ago, a significant reason why there was a shortage of adult males. 65.95.37.175 22:52, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
This article is unclear as to whether this custom is still practiced or not. 220.253.134.122 09:04, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't understand this section at all.
"Second, they are limited to the traditional female immunity to blood-feud, which remains a major cause of male mortality. If a clan is under siege and all of its males are potential targets for a vengeance murder, the "sworn virgin" is limited to immunity as a target and limited to carrying out crucial men's work without fear of being killed."
Could someone please clean up the language to make it more comprehensible? I think this is an attempt to say that not being killed in feuds is a disadvantage for sworn virgins. That makes little enough sense that I really hope I'm interpretting wrong.
