Swiss Life

The Swiss Life group is the largest life insurance company of Switzerland. Its seat is in Zurich. The Swiss Life group has 9300 employees and administers approximately 201 billion Swiss franc. CEO is Rolf Dörig and president of the board of directors is Bruno Gehrig (as of 2005).

- 1857 establishment of "Schweizerische Rentenanstalt" ("Swiss annuity establishment") in Zurich
- Between 1866 and 1987 Rentenanstalt expands to Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, Spain, Luxembourg and Italy
- 1988 takeover of La Suisse insurance company in Lausanne
- 1997 transformation into a corporation
- 1998 inclusion of Rentenstalt/Swiss Life shares in the SMI index
- 1999 complete takeover of Livit, Banca del Gottardo, the Lloyd Continental (France) and the UTO Albis.

Different products and services are offered for both private people and enterprises, including disability, accident and old age pension and insurance and asset management.

Swiss Life engages in sponsoring in sport and culture, among other things for the Swiss national soccer team, the Zurich chamber orchestra and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. A partnership between Swiss Life and the Circus knee also exists.
