Railways Amateur Swimming CLub was formed in Ipswich in 1901, as a women only swimming club, however later men were able to join the club also.
The oldest swimming club in Ipswich, nd one of the oldest in Queensland, Railways has a very long history.
A member of the now defunct IDRSA (Ipswich & District Regional Swimming Association), Railway Swimming has won more IDRSA Championships and IDRSA Sprint Carnivals than any other club in Ipswich
Based for many years at the Jim Gardiner Pool Complex, the club moved to the Goergie Conway Swim entre at Leichardt, when the Ipswich City Council decided that the Jim Gardiner Pool, a city icon, and the place were most of Ipswich learnt to swim, was to be filled in, and the complex flattened.
Railways meets on Friday nights from the start of the 4th School Term until Easter, with a break over Christmas. Club nights start from around 6.30pm.
