[edit] Swikee
Swikee is frog leg soup. Originally coming from China, this soup is well known in Indonesia, not only by the Chinese community. It has been also known as a traditional food coming from Purwodadi Grobogan, a city in Central Java in Indonesia. The main ingredient is frog legs (mainly from "green frogs") with the condiments of garlic, gingers and fermented soya (tauco), salt and pepper. Once it is served, we can add fried garlic and chopped celery. It is accompanied with plain white rice.
The taste of the frogs legs is close the mixted between chicken and fish. Normally, it is only the legs to be served in the soup, since the legs are the most meaty ones. However, the skin of the frogs can also be dried under the sun, and fried as chips. The salted fried frogs skin has a unique taste uncomparable with other types chips.
Another type of frog cooking is "pepes kodok", where the frog legs with different types of condiments is wrap in banana leafs and put in fire till it's cooked. The taste of the meat is rich with a nice smell of banana leaves.
The frog cooking can easlily be found in Purwodadi Grobogan, where it becomes the local delicacy. However, it can also be found easily in the main city in Indonesia, such as Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Semarang or Surabaya. Normally the restaurant will put the name "Swikee Purwodadi"
Indonesia is one of the main exporter of frogs. In the past, the frogs could be obtained from the wild, especially during the rainy seasons. Lately, there are more and more farms, who raise frogs due to the increase demands, including from France.
