[edit] Photos please

If anyone could help with pictures for this article it would be much appreciated. (Wiki standard, appropriate, high-resolution images with the copyright issues kept in mind) Thanks, Tsaddik Dervish 12:47, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

Thank you Fred chessplayer for the picture! The more images the merrier I think.. :-) --Tsaddik Dervish 14:35, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
Your welcome. Being from Malmö , I chose a local rapper... :-) --Fred-Chess 14:50, August 19, 2005 (UTC)
It was a good choice. I guess the ultimate photo, in my mind, would be of a bunch of Swedish rappers (of different ethnicities) with graffiti paintings in the background and a breakdancer and a DJ somewhere. I also guess that such a photo would be hard to find. :-) --Tsaddik Dervish 15:22, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] ...recent acts to emerge...

At the end of the paragraph 'The Second Breakthrough' there is a segment that starts; "More recent acts to emerge include:" and goes on to list some noteworthy hip hop acts.

I think this should be a short list with no more than, let's say, nine groups/rappers. Otherwise there's a risk that people with a special affinity for an act listed in the 'Well known rappers and crews' section want to put that act in the in the 'Second Breakthrough' paragraph even though that act may not be all that noteworthy. Which would in the end result in two equally long lists.

So I suggest nine names. That means that if someone wants to add a name to that sentence/'list' they also have to remove one of the already existing names. The artist/group added should be more noteworthy (selling more records, garnering more attention etc) than the artist/group which would be removed. Hope this makes sense. :-) --Tsaddik Dervish 14:27, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

Right now these are the names listed: Promoe, Don Diego, Snook, Fjärde Världen, Fattaru, Ison & Fille, Spotrunnaz, Advanced Patrol and Ayesha.
I chose the names because they are all, at least somewhat, successful (radioplay, records sold, media coverage) and they represent different aspects of the hip hop culture in Sweden. But, the hip hop scene changes rapidly so if one/some of the names should be replaced, go ahead and do so. --Tsaddik Dervish 14:27, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
Wikipedia prefers not to write about "things that are changing" (that is better done at wikinews or sv:wikinews). I think basically it will be difficult to maintain such a list of nine artists. Perhaps better would be to write just why they are interest. e.g. "artists that have had singles on the top-10 list" or such.
These are just suggestions... --Fred-Chess 14:55, August 19, 2005 (UTC)
Great suggestion! I'll try to figure out a phrasing along the lines of your example that will (sort of, indirectly) put a limit on how many recent hip hop acts can be mentioned in the the 'Second Breakthrough' paragraph. The 'Nine Artist Rule' is no more. --Tsaddik Dervish 15:41, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Third wave/breakthrough

So... this goes through the first and second breakthroughs, then skips straight to the fourth wave. What's the third phase of Swedish hip hop? Tuf-Kat 23:56, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

The second breakthrough is the third phase.
  1. The beginning (roughly 1982-1991)
  2. The first breakthrough (i.e. into the mainstream) (roughly 1991-1998)
  3. The second breakthrough (i.e. into the mainstream) (roughly 1998-2002)
  4. The fourth wave (roughly 2002-)
