The Sweet Sioux Tomahawk is presented to the winner of the annual college football game between the University of Illinois and Northwestern University. The original trophy was a carved wooden Indian, but was replaced by a replica tomahawk for easier transportation.
Northwestern won the Tomahawk first in 1945, beating Illinois 13-7 in Evanston. As of the 2006 football season, Illinois holds a 51-44-5 edge in the series overall, and a 32-28-2 lead since the Tomahawk was instituted. However, in the past ten years, Northwestern has a 6-4 advantage and has won the last four matchups.
