Sweet Revenge was to be the third album from the punk band Generation X. Near the album's completion guitarist Bob Andrews and drummer Mark Laff left the band. Although bootlegged on numerous occasions, the album would remain officially unreleased until 2003 when it was included on the three-disc Anthology compilation. Billy Idol and Tony James would go on to record the band's final Album, Kiss Me Deadly.
Sweet Revenge contains several songs that would later appear on Kiss Me Deadly, but their versions on Sweet Revenge are far less electronic sounding and more raw. Sweet Revenge can be seen as a bridge between the bands previous pop-punk recordings and the more experimental "Kiss Me Deadly" LP.
