Sweet Little Sixteen
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sweet Little Sixteen is the name of a Rock and Roll song written and sung by Chuck Berry.
Its subject is fans of Rock and Roll, and specifically a sixteen year old girl who is obsessed with Rock and Roll performers. She presumably qualifies as a "groupie", although the lyrics are innocent enough to avoid much controversy:
- They're really rockin' in Boston
- Pittsburgh, P-A
- Deep in the Heart of Texas
- Around the 'Frisco Bay
- All over St. Looie
- And down in New Orleans
- All the cats want to dance with
- Sweet Little Sixteen
The Beach Boys' song "Surfin' U.S.A." has virtually the same melody, with new lyrics that focus on the Beach Boys' ongoing theme of Surfing:
- If everybody had an ocean
- Across the U.S.A.
- Then everybody'd be surfin'
- Like Californ-i-a
- You'd see 'em wearin' their baggies
- Huarache sandals, too
- A bushy bushy blond hairdo
- Surfin' U.S.A.
[edit] Notes
- Various Beach Boys CD's, such as the Endless Summer collection, acknowledge "C. Berry" as the author of the tune for "Surfin' U.S.A."
