Sweet Amber is a song by American metal band Metallica, from their 2003 album St. Anger.

The origin of Sweet Amber came from a number of segments Metallica was asked to do by a large radio chain in North America. The band was asked to record several cheesy statements about listening to the radio station, and in return winning a cash prize. The band's opposition to this was seen in the documentary Some Kind of Monster, in which the band members are seen making fun of the lines they were asked to do.

While on the phone with their management about the radio promotion, the band begins to argue. Finally, it comes to realization that unless they do the radio lines, the radio chain might not play their upcoming album, St. Anger. James Hetfield says "I understand the 'wash your back, you wash mine.' Wash your... 'I'll wash your back so you don't stab mine.'" Thus, the beginning line of the song is created.
