The Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration, also known as Hanken, is a Swedish language business university located in Helsinki and Vaasa, Finland. The school was originally founded in 1909, and expanded in 1980 by adding a campus in Vaasa.
There are approximately 2,400 students enrolled in degree programs, of which 500 study in Vaasa. 200 students are currently taking part of the doctoral program. Teaching and research staff amounts to about 170.
Hanken currently offers Doctor, Master and Bachelor of Science degrees, along with a Master of Business Administration program.
Most classes are being taught in Swedish, but the number of classes taught in English is growing. The European credit transfer system is used, to facilitate easy transfers. The university received the EQUIS accreditation in 2000. The accreditation was renewed in 2005.
Hanken is a state institution since 1975 and, as the other nineteen Finnish universities, under supervision of the Ministry of Education.
The Student Union operates at both campuses and organizes a variety of events.
