Swedish National Migration Board

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Swedish National Migration Board (Migrationsverket) is a Swedish government agency that answers to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The agency is located in Norrköping.

The agency is Sweden’s central government authority for aliens affairs, with responsibility for permits for people visiting and settling in Sweden, asylum issues, citizenship affairs and national and international cooperation in these matters.

In December 2005 the agency found itself the centre of a scandal after certain unsavoury practices were revealed, such as champagne celebrationsafter deportations. But despite accusations that a culture of discrimination reigned in the agency, a government report in February 2006 cleared it of unethical practices.
