Prestige classes

The Swashbuckler is a character class in the Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition that was introduced in the Complete Warrior.

The Swashbuckler is a combat oriented class that emphasizes finesse, style and flair, combining martial prowess with amazing acrobatics to outmaneuver opponents. With a d10 for hit points and a 1/1 base attack bonus advancement, the swashbuckler can be an effective frontline fighter, though their inability to wear medium or heavy armours while using their class features limits their capacity somewhat. Their plentiful skill points and socialy-orinted class skills also make them ideal diplomats. The ability to deal strength (weakness critical class feature) and constitution damage (wounding critical class feature), as well as the ability to charge in difficult terrain (acrobatic charge class feature) can makes the swashbuckler a formidable opponent in battle.

No currently published race has the Swashbuckler as a favored class.

The Swashbuckler existed as a character kit for fighters and thieves in 2nd edition, found in the Complete Fighter's Handbook and Complete Rogue's Handbook. That kit was the clear ancestor of the 3.5 edition class, with a similar focus on finesse and flair.

[edit] In Neverwinter Nights

In the computer game Neverwinter Nights, swashbuckler may be selected as a character package for the rogue class. The swashbucker package focuses more on hand-to-hand combat and persuasion than the other rogue packages do.

[edit] In "Promise of the Witch King"

In "Promise of the Witch King" it was revealed that famed drow mercenary Jarlaxle Baenre is a swashbuckler, which was, according to Artemis Entreri, all flash and no substance, and meant simply to tie up the opponents rather than actually hurt them, a misconception that was soon corrected.
